dreads faq
Q: How long does an install last?
A: Your dreadlocks will not fall out, they will grow out at the rate your hair grows. This varies from person to person so we suggest 8 to 12 weeks as a guide.
Q: How long will my set last?
A: With good care of your set, your dreads will not show much general wear and tear. We suggest avoiding velcro and sequins as your dreads could get pulled. Your dreads are machine washable in a pillowcase or similar on a delicates wash. The set will gradually start to look and feel more natural over time. We are able to provide a resealing service to tighten and refresh your dreads should you wish to return them to their original form. Get in touch to enquire about this.
Q: How do you wash your hair with them in?
A: The most important thing about wearing synthetic dreadlocks is keeping your scalp clean and moisturised. Generally, as you will be washing them less and have additional weight added, this can cause stress on the scalp if not looked after properly. Wash your dreadlocks with diluted shampoo (1 part shampoo to 4 parts water, as a guide), ensuring that you rinse out thoroughly. If you choose to wash your hair less, you can apply a moisturiser such as cocoa butter to your scalp. NEVER use dry shampoo as it can cause a residue and could, due to the nature of the product, dry out your scalp. Febreze or similar can be used to freshen dreads but ensure this is not applied to the scalp.
Q: How do I get them out and will they leave my hair a mess?
A: Simply cut the elastic band where it sits at the end of your natural hair and unravel your hair from around the dreadlock. Comb out the root of your hair and wash it thoroughly. Synthetic dreadlocks DO NOT ruin your hair. Your hair will appear crimped looking when you take them out, and you will seem to lose a lot of hair. This is the hair that you would have naturally combed out over the time you've had them in. A little extra conditioner may be used for the first few washes if needed, but your hair is often in better condition than before you had dreads due to the natural oils that your hair has absorbed whilst they've been installed.
Q: My hair is thin/course/short/long/multi-coloured etc. Can I still have synthetic dreads?
A: Yes, they can be installed into any hair over 3 inches in length!
Q: My hair is blonde/brown/pink/green/grey etc. Can you match my colour and/or can I have any colour dreadlocks?
A: We try our best to match any colour hair and you can pretty much have any colour. Obviously the closer the match, the more natural the results.
Q: How long do they take to install?
A: A full head installation takes approximately 1 hour.
braids faq
Q: How long will my braids last?
A: Your braids will grow out at the rate that your hair grows. This varies from person to person but around 3 months is a good guide. The hair can begin to matt at the top after this period, so we would advise to remove them.
Q: How do you wash your hair while it's braided?
A: The most important thing is keeping your scalp clean and moisturised. Generally, as you will be washing your hair less and have additional weight added, this can cause stress on the scalp if not looked after properly. Wash your braids with diluted shampoo (1 part shampoo to 4 parts water, as a guide), ensuring that you rinse out thoroughly. If you choose to wash your hair less, you can apply a moisturiser such as cocoa butter to your scalp. Febreze or similar can be used to freshen your braids but ensure this is not applied to the scalp.
Q: How do I get them out and will they leave my hair a mess?
A: Simply cut the extensions at the part where you hair ends on the braid and unravel them. Comb out the root of your hair and wash it thoroughly. Braiding your hair WILL NOT ruin it. Your hair will appear crimped looking when you take them out, and you will seem to lose a lot of hair. This is the hair that you would have naturally combed out over the time you've had them in. A little extra conditioner may be used for the first few washes if needed, but your hair is often in better condition than before you had your braids due to the natural oils that your hair has absorbed whilst it's been braided.
Q: Do I need to have extensions put in or can I just have my natural hair braided?
A: I can braid your natural hair of course, but it will not last as long as with extensions.
Q: My hair is thin/course/short/long/multi-coloured etc. Can I still have braids?
A: Yes, they can be installed into any hair over 3 inches in length!
Q: My hair is blonde/brown/pink/green/grey etc. Can you match my colour and/or can I have any colour extensions?
A: We try our best to match any colour hair and you can pretty much have any colour. Obviously the closer the match, the more natural the results.
Q: How long do they take to install?
A: Braids take approximately 3-4 hours to install.
